Mission

EMPOWERING BIRTHING PEOPLE TOGETHER

MAMA connects birthing people with compassionate advocates to reduce their burden so they can raise the next generation.

Approach

Birthing people are paired with an Advocate (based on identities, if preferred) for up to a year (extension possible) who can support them through the many transitions that can occur during the postpartum period. MAMA is a free resource for moms for up to a year after birth and can be extended if more support is needed.

For example, this may include:

  • Finding a perinatal therapist, doula, primary care provider, gynecologist.

  • Searching for postpartum, mom, caregiver support groups;

  • Helping to navigate the MA Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program.

  • Looking for childcare options.

  • Finding baby activities.

  • Basic needs such as housing, food, etc.

How does it work?

Your Birthing Advocate may:

  • Do a therapist search by zip code

  • Email therapists for availability and insurance coverage

  • Find a doctor currently accepting new patients that takes the birthing person’s insurance

  • Call the PFML office to ask questions

  • Help to complete paperwork

    •    Mental Health Support: We connect birthing people to counseling services and emotional support to address postpartum depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges, ensuring no one has to face this journey alone.

    •    Newborn Care Guidance: Our team helps connect new parents with resources and experts for hands-on guidance in infant care, including feeding, sleep, and bonding, to ensure confidence in caring for their newborn.

    •    Physical Recovery Assistance: We help birthing people access the right physical recovery resources and professionals, ensuring that they receive the support they need to heal after childbirth.
